I was in Belgrade, Serbia this last weekend and had the pleasure of delivering two talks.
The first was for the Kaktus Festival and was titled, "Fame. Ideas that set the world on fire". I pointed out that famous work has been proven to be very good for business, and the team member who has the most impact on fame is the client. Agencies create ideas, clients bring scale.
It was perhaps a message that will resonate better in a few years when the economy in Serbia settles down to a dull roar, but the first brands that repeatedly take advantage of what John Lewis and Volvo Trucks do will dominate that market.
The second talk was to a group of 3rd and 4th year students at the Singidunum University. Serbia is a tough place to grow up, their history is clear and present, so hopefully that speech called, "Cause for Optimism" struck a cord with a few of them. I think it's alright to be a street smart creative kid in this world.
Until next time, Belgrade. Hvala.
